Tabook

84 poems · translated from the Afrikaans Taboek

Tabook is a book for no one: the people who need it won't read it, and the people who read it don't need it.

In 83 short poems, Riku Lätti says what usually goes unsaid. He asks who wrote god into the bible: Paul, Josephus, Constantine and Rome. He sees man as nature that forgets it is nature, and ego as the root of both heaven and hell. He asks what goodness looks like when it expects no reward. Three voices, set left, centre and right on the page, argue, interrupt and answer one another.

It is irreverent, funny and unafraid, and in the end it is tender: past faith and hope, it arrives at love. Translated by the author from the Afrikaans Taboek. This is the unpopular opinion.
