the evolution of religion

out of fear
we first worshipped fickle gods
for protection
food and survival
and the gods were good
because survive we did
to this day
fed well enough

the voices of the dead
do not call to god
to will the power
of the day

all that is
is
all that is

and
change

and things happen
for every named god
a day dawns on which
her last human
worships her
for a last time

hush people
a god is passing

humans evolve
in every respect
forever wiser
ambitious to wring
more from this life

from faith

a collective ego
a living god
that festers along
for an eternal life
in the survival
and spread
of a population

we have reached
the end of the earth
so to speak
with the realisation
it's round
and so ends
the endlessness
of land
which makes
a growing mankind
aim for the heavens

dissatisfied with living on
only in descendants

the ego insists on

more life for the i

life

for the rest of all time

with god

man willing

to share heaven
with god

if god could
for heaven's sake
just create it

all who lived before
who asked less of gods
who are the fools now
you are dead forever
and we modern believers
with our modern god
we will live on
for an eternity
