who calls up god at the drop of a hat
for the way to his wages
who knows god so well
who can word god
word for word

does god talk back
or is god merely the echo
in the head

from the mouth
of the preacher
words so sweet
they fill out stadiums
with paying guests
craving a fix

nearer my god to thee

to hear god

in the preacher's voice

from whose pen
flows the sermon
with the news
of what god says today

to be able to preach
you have to believe
in yourself
look convinced
about what you're saying
even if you make it up
because who else was there
to refute
that god
tells you
these things

what comes first

or the sin

did god create sin
or the preachers' god

be honest and ask yourself
who the hell really cares
what man does on earth
